Community Overview
The people of Floyd County live in Rural Texas because of choice – we like the wide open spaces where you can see for 60 miles on a clear night! The South Plains of Texas has the biggest sky of stars and a sunset every evening that reminds you there is a superior being watching over us. We like the simple lifestyle and we love Floyd County because of the people! The people are not afraid to work and encourage it. The people have high morals and expect it. People trust and respect their neighbors. People simply just care about others and some find the time to just sit down to talk and listen.

The “can do” attitude of our citizens is exemplified through active churches, positive educational opportunities at Floydada ISD. And recreational facilities like the Floyd County Friends Unity Center, the Floyd County Library facility, and the Whirlwind Gym. Our community is dedicated to preserving its heritage at the Floyd County Museum and the new Veteran's Memorial inplace.
Floyd County consists of two incorporated cities -- Floydada (county seat) and Lockney, and several small, rural communities. Floydada has several parks including the baseball complex and tennis courts, a public swimming pool, a new library, an excellent historical museum, and a beautiful Country Club. Sports are a major form of entertainment in Floydada. You can usually attend an athletic (school or non-school sponsored) event or practice any given day. The Eastern side of Floyd County is blessed with the Caprock that provides you with great hunting opportunities as well as gorgeous scenic drives!
