Labor Force Characteristics
Labor in Floyd County is inexpensive compared to other counties on the South Plains. The average labor force earns from $5.25/hour to $7.00/hour. There is a Texas Workforce Commission office in Floydada. Employers can access financial assistance for training through several programs offered through the South Plains Workforce Center and the Texas Workforce Commission.
The Professional Development Center, funded by the South Plains Workforce Board will open April, 2002, and will offer workforce training to include but not limited to adult literacy (GED, English as a Second Language, and Remedial Reading), keyboarding, miscellaneous software programs, entrepreneurship, business plans, management, marketing on the web, etc. at no charge. The Center will work with local businesses and new businesses to customize training for the employees. We also anticipate offering continuing education courses and college credit courses through South Plains College.
