Transportation Access
Transportation of goods can be accomplished via motor freight, air, rail, or water.
All of these modes except water are available in the region. Motor freight and air
are available in Floyd County. Rail transportation is available in Plainview (25 miles)
or Lubbock (45 miles); water transportation is available in Houston (570 miles). It is
390 miles to the Mexican border.
Motor freight in Floydada is serviced by 2 major motor freight companies and 3 parcel
service carriers. We also have approximately 5-7 independent freight contractors in Floydada.
Interstates, Highways, and Airports.
Interstates
Interstate 27 - (Port to Plains project) Begins at Lubbock, runs through Plainview (25 miles), and ends at Amarillo.
Interstate 40 - (runs east and west) Access at Amarillo (95 miles).
Interstate 20 - (runs east and west) Access at Sweetwater (115 miles).
US Highways
Highways 62 and 70 run through Floydada and Lockney.Highway 82 (major four lane highway connecting Lubbock
and Dallas); access at Ralls (20 miles).
Highway 84 (major 4 lane highway connecting New Mexico
to South Texas); access at Post (45 miles).
International Airports
- Lubbock International Airport (50 miles).
- Amarillo International Airport (100 miles).
Both airports offer jet service from several companies and scheduled commercial service
to many major destinations daily.
Municipal Airport
Floydada Municipal Airport, located 1 mile north of Floydada on State Highway 207. Fuel, covered
airplane parking, and chartered flights are available. The runway is 4400 feet and can accommodate
corporate jets. |
